Europe, in the concept to which we are used and as an entity governed by multicultural inhabitants, needs rules and guiding principles that are both accepted and understood by the people. Apart from political ambitions and welfare plans, the marketplace also needs guidance and support in areas where special competence and knowledge on "how things work" come from experience and sound judgement.

The theme of the 39th EOQ Congress, "People for Quality - Quality for People", symbolizes this vision that emphasizes is on the activities performed by its members in each region and country throughout Europe. The proceedings, basing on the Congress in June 1995 and edited by the European Organization for Quality (EOQ) and the Swiss Association for the Promotion of Quality (SAQ), centre on questions of quality management under consideration of this aspect.
